MICRO NEEDLING (CIT)
WHAT IS MICRO NEEDLING (CIT) AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
MICRO NEEDLING or collagen induction
therapy (CIT) is a new advanced treatment
used to stimulate collagen and elastin
production and assist product infusion
into the epidermal and dermal layers, resulting
in a smoother more youthful looking
complexion. It is excellent for treating,
acne scarring, stretch marks, fine lines, wrinkles,
pigmentation and enlarged pores.
Studies show that the results have been on par
with fraxel laser therapy without the risk of
scarring or burns. Contrary to the sound of the name, it is a painless procedure as a topical anaesthetic is used.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Micro needling is performed using our medical grade needling system. We use disposable sterile needling cartridges containing twelve short microscopic needles which are housed in a pen like device. The unique motorized head causes the needles to go up and down vertically into the dermis at a super fast speed as it is glided over the skin at various depths, creating thousands of precision microscopic channels. These micro-channels or punctures stimulate a healing response. The healing response causes platelets and growth factors to be naturally released in response to the micro-injuries. This in turn starts the formation of brand new collagen and elastin chains in your dermal and epidermal layers - two of the key building blocks of our skin. A medical grade skin boosting serum is also infused at the same time acting as 'fertiliser' to stimulate growth factors, thereby increasing collagen and elastin production. This develops a more uniform even skin surface appearance as it is now supported up by the newly formed bed of collagen and elastin matrix, formed in the epidermal and dermal layers. In the case of acne pick scars, it creates new layers of tissue which heal upwards to meet the surface of the normal unaffected skin, thereby evening out the overall surface.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
Micro needling is a great treatment choice for those with acne scars, wrinkles and fine lines, and provides general rejuvenation to the whole face, neck, de-colletage and backs of hands. In particular the peri-orbit area (eye region), crows feet, frown lines, naso-labial folds and lines around the mouth can also be focused on . The tiny needles effectively treat post-op scars and stretch marks from child birth or sudden weight gain.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Generally a minimum of 3-4 treatments are required to achieve the optimum rejuvenation of an area. When treating scarring, at least 5-6 treatments would generally be required. The treatments are performed 4-6 weeks apart.
WHEN WILL WE SEE RESULTS?
It takes around 4 weeks for your skin to form a new collagen after needling. However, this process continues over several months, so the results continue to improve. The overall structure of the skin is largely left intact and the skin heals quickly after a treatment, allowing you to resume to your normal activities within 48 hours. Advanced vertical skin needling promotes scar-less healing and collagen development, similar to fractional laser treatments but without the side effects and downtime. We don't use derma rollers due to their tendency to cause uneven gaping micro channels, which causes too much trauma and uneven results.
You may get some skin peeling after the first week, which helps lighten pigmentation or scarring and the skin looks more hydrated. The results are gradual as collagen reproduction takes time. Most clients report a gradual improvement in their skin colour and texture over a 6- 8 week period. That improvement is compounded as each consecutive treatment is performed.
IS IT PAINFUL AND WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING TREATMENT?
No it is not painful, because we use a topical anaesthetic to keep you comfortable. Your face will be cleansed and then disinfected with a hospital grade skin anti-microbial. The topical numbing cream will be then applied. After 20 minutes, the numbing cream is removed and our medical grade skin needling niacinamide peptide serum will be applied to the treatment area as the needling is performed. When the treatment is finished, the serum will be left in place. The microscopic holes that can't be seen with the naked eye, will seal over after about 20 minutes containing the skin needling peptide serum, and the physiological reaction to microscopic cellular injury will commence. We recommend applying STRATAMED after microneedling. This is an affordable hospital grade semi-permeable gel dressing applied like a serum, and helps the skin feel more comfortable, reduces post procedural erythema, accelerates healing time, and provides better overall results. We are registered stockists for STRATAMED
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?
There will be some erythema or mild redness, warmth and perhaps a tingly sunburnt type sensation after treatment. This will resolve over the next 4 - 48 hours depending on the depth of needling performed. You can shower as usual that night, however avoid overly hot showers, baths, spas and swimming for the next 48hrs. We can supply you with a protective medical grade semi-permeable gel that helps sooth your skin and promote better healing . You can apply this at home for a few days as required. Wearing sunscreen everyday afterward is paramount.
